The Foro Romano and the Palatino

The Roman Forum took us almost all day to walk around. It served many purposes over the years, but it was basically a town hall, meeting place, and town center. Now, there are very few buildings that are still intact. Much of the marble used to make to make the forum is scattered around the grass.

This is where Caesar's remains are.

This marble is what remains of a column. Everyone just uses them as benches now.

The Vestal Virgins lived in the House of the Vestals. They promised chastity from the age of about 6 to 36. They were a group of six women from prominent Roman families who worshipped the goddess Vesta.

PROS:

They could eventually marry after thirty years.

They lived in a very beautiful convent.

CONS:

The punishment for women who allowed the sacred fire to burn out was a flogging.

If they broke their vow of chastity they would be buried alive.

I don't think I would have wanted to be a Vestal Virgin. I'm terrible at making a fire.

I'll see you soon,

                  Luisa
