The Spanish Steps and Piazza Navona

I went to the Spanish Steps and Piazza Navona on Saturday. Very fun!

The area around the Spanish Steps is all very fancy. There's a Gucci, Prada, Valentino, Louis Vuitton Jimmy Choo, and more. So... not a lot to buy, but plenty to see.

Ta-Da! The Spanish Steps. Why are there so many people? Ugh. You can barely see the steps, but I promise they are there.

This fountain is at the base of the steps. It is by either Bernini or his father.
It is a half sunken boat. There aren't many waterworks because the water source isn't very plentiful.

We went to Babington's for lunch. It's in our guidebook as a sweet British style cafe.
Well, it's sweet, but for a very high price. Four scones and two teas were 33 euros.
I was tempted to walk out...but look at the little kitty on the tea kettle!

I snuck this picture of macarons. They all looked so pretty! The lady at the counter said I wasn't allowed to take photos so I only have this photo of the display case.

Some floating balloons in Piazza Navona.

It was a really great day for walking around Rome. Not at all like the downpour we had today.

For Those Who Missed the Bimbos...

Yup. I've taken more pictures of Bimbo a Bordo stickers. There are too many out there to ignore!

These two are basically the same, yet the one below looks like a modernized version of the first.
What happened to the elephant?

I really like this one. So cute!

Yesterday: I saw so many in just one night!

This is definitely in my top three.
Surprisingly, I never thought I would have a Top Three for Baby on Board stickers.

 Today:

This one is pretty creepy looking. It might be because of the fading.
Those icy blue eyes are kind of haunting.
Which one is your favorite?

Capri and Herculaneum

Last weekend we went to Herculaneum, Naples, and Capri. Sadly, I have no photos from Naples because my camera ran out of battery.
These are some photos that I took in Herculaneum and Capri.

Herculaneum: A much smaller site than Pompeii, Herculaneum is a lil' dose of ancient Rome. Everything from baths to frescoes are still preserved here.
This is a Herculaneum snack bar. The food would stay hot inside those massive pots.

The sidewalks were so tall here! I couldn't even reach them when I jumped.

Some of the frescoes look pretty good for (almost) 2,000 years.

The Herculaneum puppy

Capri: This tiny island is home to Tiberius's villa and has some of the most expensive shops I've seen in Italy. Even though the island is tiny, there is still plenty to see and do.

The view from our hotel terrace

We were in Anacapri. This is a map of town.

Meringue!

The moon on our first night was so bright!

The view of the island from Capri.

Kitty! ...oops... another cat photo

I met some goats too!

We went on a ski-lift type machine that took us to the top of the island. This is Dad on our way down.

Selfie in the sky!

The arch on Capri is huge and impossible to get in one shot.

This goat walks the edge! The cliff beneath him was straight down a few hundred feet.
Brave little goat.

This is right before I went into the Blue Grotto. Outside, the water was this dark navy blue, but inside the Grotto, it lit up and my entire body looked blue.

I had so much fun on this trip! I only wish I could show you some pictures from Naples.

The Gladiators in Circo Massimo

The Circo Massimo is a huge park and archeological site that used to hold up to 300,000 people. It's pretty big. Last weekend, there was a sort of Ancient Rome fair. So awesome!

There were some pretty intense gladiator fights.
The guy on the right won eventually.

These ancient Romans were casually watching a knighting.

This is where most of the women of the fair are. I guess it wasn't the most exciting time for women.

Lil' Warriors. I would not want to battle with one of these guys.

Basically, this fair was like a Civil War reenactment in the U.S.
I thought this fair was super cool because there were so many gladiators and Romans.

Roman Water Fountains

Remember that photo of me bending over to drink from a fountain? Well, it turns out I was doing it all wrong. Below is a lesson in how to drink from a Roman water fountain. Hopefully, you won't make the same mistakes I did.

First, note the hole on the water pipe. Then use a finger to block the exit hole. Water should burst from the first hole and allow easy drinking. Remember, the green stuff at the bottom of the fountain is slippery. I had to learn that the hard way.

Almost all the fountains I've seen have SPQR on them.
In English, they stand for The Senate and People of Rome.
Now you can drink from a Roman water fountain like a pro!

These fountains are a different story. (Trevi Fountain)
