Big Bambú

This weekend we went to the MACRO (Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome).
The museum was small, but they had very large exhibits. There were no paintings, only sculptures.

The museum is located in the old stockyards/slaughterhouse of Rome.

<--This is Big Bamboo. It was awesome! We signed a release form and then we got to climb up stairs to the top of the structure. There were tables, chairs, "recliners", and ramps.

The entire 30m sculpture was made of only bamboo and 5 or 4 mm hiking rope.

Yes, this picture is very close up, but it gives you an idea
of how much bamboo went into making this thing.

Oops. Another cat.

There were many levels and different staircases.

A view from near the top.

These are the recliners. They are surprisingly comfy.

Pros of living in Big Bambú: Sustainable, comfortable, and very fun lifestyle.
Cons: No bathroom or kitchen, a few too many windows, and a little bit scary.

Would you live in this kind of bamboo house? Would you make any changes to it?

  1. I love this piece of art and think it would be super cool to live in. However, I would love some privacy as well as a source of heat for the winter! I find it crazy that someone had this much patience and think it's amazing the structure holds up with just the string. Can't wait to climb it myself!!

    1. You will! It's really awesome and you climb it to understand how it works. From afar it just looks like an upside down ice cream cone, but I was really surprised to see how far you could climb inside.

  2. I think Big Bambu would fit in nicely at the Big E. Good climbing. And then you could get a cream puff.

    1. Definitely! I would have loved a cream puff after reaching the top.
I'm sad that I'm going to miss the Big E though. Ben and Jerry's, rides, and lego phone
      cases. Ah...perfect.
