Musei Capitolini

Yesterday we went to the Capitolini Museum.

If you don't know the story of Romulus and Remus, I'm sure this bronze of Lupa Capitolina
looks pretty messed up. It's a bit like Tarzan. Basically, Romulus and Remus were raised by
wolves and eventually founded Rome. So yeah, just like Tarzan.

This entire statue used to be covered in gold! It is the original statue of Marcus Aurelius.
The replica is outside in the piazza. The original base was designed by Michelangelo and is
outside.

Caravaggio painted a fortune teller stealing this man's ring.
I like this one because the man looks skeptical, but he
doesn't expect that the woman is stealing from him.

The Dying Gaul: This man was identified as a Gaul because
of his mustache, crazy hair, and neck collar. Today I would
say this is your average 80s dude.

In the Capitolini, there were two entire rooms filled with only busts.
This room was dedicated to mostly Roman emperors.

This one was my favorite of the busts because the hair is made
of black marble and her clothing is made of another two different color
marbles.

We spent about 4 hours in the Capitolini. I would definitely go again because there is so much to see and you could really spend a couple of days there.
